The Australian Pink Floyd – The Wall

I had seen the band before a couple of years ago in Sweden and they were good. This time they were doing a special tour in which they performed the classic 1979 Pink Floyd album The Wall in its entirety.
The venue was Sheffield Arena and it was a half arena which meant plenty of parking and also plenty of spare seats to allow me to spread myself out and take in the experience.

There were 6 musicians, 1 lead vocalist and 3 lady backing singers bringing the music alive. At the back of the stage was a screen on which the animation was shown. A fair bit of it seemed to be from the original source but with a few added graphics here and there and every so often a kangaroo or 2.

The music and the vocals were spot on and the images and laser effects added to the grandness. There are various great stand alone songs on the album but when presented in the correct order with the same mini sections it gives the whole thing a little more life. During The Trial I even got goosebumps as various band members recreated the vocals of this section full of anger and confusion

There were also a few nice inflatables including what looked like the teacher (on the opposite side of the stage to me), the biig pig, and at the end an inflatable bouncing kangaroo. For the final scene most of the members were at the front with acoustic instruments and sounding a little more Australian than they had all night. Very nice

Each half of The Wall lasted a nice 55 minutes after which the band came back for another 35 minute of tunes including Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Wish You Were Here.

So there was nearly 2.5 hours of great music with nice staging and a relaxed atmosphere. The announcements said that there was no going back in if you went out the building (which is silly) so I hope all the stoners filled their tanks before they went in :)
Brilliant stuff from one of the best PF cover bands around.
