Saxon + Anvil

Apparently Anvil quite popular in the 80s and now popular again mainly thanks to the documentary film ‘Anvil! The Story of Anvil’ which was actually quite moving (if you’re slightly into metal probably).
Still together after 28 years of albums are guitarist/vocalist Steve "Lips" Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner. They are joined by a shaven headed bassist and together they actually sound pretty good. It’s classic old school heavy metal done well. The decent sized crowd seemed to like them as they went through various metal type songs about metal from their 13 metal albums including tracks like Metal on Metal, 666 and This Is Thirteen. They were actually quite enjoyable :)

I saw Saxon for the first time 2 years ago and was impressed. If that was a resurgence then they are continuing it, if they’ve been going strong then they are still going strong. Vocalist Biff Byford and guitarist Paul Quinn have stayed with the band for their 30 years and continue to prove themselves as true classic heavy metal performers. 3 generations of fans raised their fists and sang and banged their heads (I just nodded and coughed) as the band went through 100 minutes of good long haired entertainment :)
