BEST OF JULY 2K10

Work! Work!
Tidy! Tidy!
Rabbit! Rabbit!

Best CD of recent times purchased
Duke Special - Presents The Songs From Mother Courage And Her Children 2009
Joe Elliot’s Down N Outz – My Regeneration 2010
Natalie Imbruglia – Come To Life 2009
iO - 'For The Masses 2008
IQ – Frequency 10th 2009
Korpiklaani – Karkelo 2009
Christopher Lee Charlemagne - By The Sword & The Cross 2010
Pure Reason Revolution - Amor Vincit Omnia 2009
Joe Perry – Have Guitar, Will Travel 2009
Presto Ballet - The Lost Art Of Time Travel 2008
Vanden Plas - Seraphic Clockwork 2010

iO is Guano Apes with a great voiced ex-RnB singer
IQ are still one of the best still running UK neo prog bands
Pure Reason Revolution are the new wave of prog, techno prog almost.
Vanden Plas are now old fashioned prog metal but they still do it well.
While these bands are something newer it’s the old fashioned feeling of Presto Ballet - The Lost Art Of Time Travel that really floated my boat. Maybe due to it having one foot in the 70’s past of bands like Yes and Genesis and one in the more metally sound but with plenty of hammond. I especially like the track Thieves.

Best CD from ages past purchased
Daughtry - Daughtry 2006
Def Leppard - Hysteria 1987
Def Leppard - Adrenalize 1992
Natalie Imbruglia - Left of the Middle 1997
INXS – Kick 1987
Iron Maiden – Virtual XI
Pride Of Lions - The Roaring of Dreams 2007
Uriah Heep - Wonderworld 1974
Uriah Heep - High And Mighty 1976

Hysteria is a classic but so is the songs of Jim Peterik from Survivor. Jim still writes and performs great AOR songs and Pride Of Lions - The Roaring of Dreams is something I think he’s very proud of. Great strong melodic songs and a great voice from Toby Hitchcock.

Best best of CD purchased
The collection of songs from 1980 to1997 from INXS - Definitive INXS

Gig of the Month
The crazy but oddly charming Circus Du Soleil

Cinema film of the Month
Predators was good violent popcorn brain fodder but while on occasion Inception cleverly twisted itself too much the end result was good intelligent yet still action packed cinema.

Film on TV
A Bunch of Amateurs
Underdog
Son Of Rambow
Igor
Land Of The Lost
Joshua
Management
Observe & Report
I’m Not There
Trust TheMan
City Of Ember
Happy-Go-Lucky
Rescue Dawn
Bruno

Underdog was great fun for the big kid in me as was Son Of Rambow which also had a bit of heart to it.
I also enjoyed City Of Ember more than I thought I would.
Possibly the one that will stick with me the most was psychological horror Joshua which had Sam Rockwell as the dad to a 9 year old kid with a very evil plan.

Best DVD bought
Daybreakers
Dead Snow
District 9
Unbreakable
Underworld
Underworld: Evolution
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
Zombieland

Tough one. I haven’t got to watch Dead Snow yet. At this point I’m going to go for Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.
DVD watched
EdTV
Come Play With Me
Run! Bitch Run!
The Hunted
Twilight: New Moon
The A-Team
Stan Helsing
A Dirty Shame
Edmond
Kinky Boots

Absolutely got to be The A-Team. I thought it retained the right amount of comedy and danger of the original series but with the action being a whole lot bigger. Loved the tank scene :)

Book read
I have mostly been reading my Classic Rock magazines and things about how to make rabbits happy.
