As per tradition Mr Doug was also there and this time also a work friend and his companions.
As with previous years the first half consisted of an hour of songs played sitting down and with an acoustic feel. Joining the main 5 were the usual guest musicians Pete Shoulder on guitar, Tim The Beard on keyboards, and the McDonald sisters on backing vocals.
Songs played though the night we’re fairly much 50/50 between Thunder songs and covers. Those played during the acoustic section were:
Your Time Is Gonna Come (Led Zeppelin)
The Joker (Steve Miller Band)
Give A Little Bit (Supertramp)
The Great Gig in the Sky (Pink Floyd)
Listen To The Music (Doobie Brothers)
Paint It Black (Rolling Stones)
After the break the band went electric and continued with their special selections. A lot of the classics usually played on normal tours were left out and replaced with tracks not played that often. I did miss the presence of the old tunes but certain rarities and the covers played made up for it.
Mama Told Me Not To Come (Randy Newman)
Wishing Well (Free)
5:15 (The Who)
The Boys Are Back In Town (Thin Lizzy)
Gimme Some Lovin’ (Spencer Davies Group)
Brown Sugar (Rolling Stones)
Leave Your Hat On (Randy Newman)
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (J. Fred Coots, Haven Gillespie 1934)
It was once again all jolly festive fun from a band who always deliver. In a few months I shall also receive a CD of selected highlights of the gig. Nice! :)
